Inappropriate relationship may hurt witness testimony

Dean Recksiedler

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – There are serious concerns over the future of the Surrey Six case. It comes after an investigator looking into the killings was put on desk duty for having a relationship with a witness in the case. Our legal analyst is talking about what this could mean.

Michael Shapray says the big issue will be at disclosure, when the Crown has to disclose to defence all of its evidence. If the officer was having an inappropriate personal relationship with this witness. he/she wouldn’t have been recording all of the communications and conversations in the ordinary course of their duties with that witness, so how will that information be provided to the defence, if it can be provided at all.”
